Director's Message
Dr. Sudhir Raniwala

Director, LNM Institute of Information Technology

Welcome to the L N Mittal Institute of Information Technology, and greetings on behalf of all of us here.

Setup as a public private enterprise, the LNMIIT has evolved since its inception in 2003 with 29 students in a rented space in the city of Jaipur. Today we have about 600 students in a beautiful and a well maintained campus. Those who had seen us earlier can see that we are growing continuously. Our growth is not limited to the number of students: we believe in a multifaceted growth. The number of students, faculty members, teacher-to-student ratio (already greater than 1:20), courses being offered to the students, facilities on campus, cultural, social and all other activities, national and international exposure to the faculty members and students, various academic events, and our contribution to the society are all growing. And we continue to march forward. We just need to do better than what we have been doing so far and create our own milieu. Our drive for excellence comes from our own inner self, and yet, it is collective. We are fortunate to be continuously guided by the governing council. Besides Shri L N Mittal, who is himself the Chairman, the council has people who have built companies and institutions, world renowned professors and persons with large administrative experience including the Chief Secretary of Rajasthan.

Starting from a non-traditional discipline “Computer and Communication Engineering”, today we have expanded to offer academic programs in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Engineering Physics and Maths & IT. At LNMIIT, both undergraduate and post graduate programs are offered. The philosophy is to admit the students in LNMIIT, and not for a particular program. Such a paradigm offers the flexibility to the students to change their programs as they learn. In addition to training them in their chosen discipline, the students have ample opportunities to take courses in humanities and social sciences as a part of their overall education. Obviously, this enables them to relate to the world in many ways.

I will like to mention two measures of acclaims of any educational institution:

(i) The success and contribution of its alumni in the society.
(ii) The research output.

Both of these are closely related to the efforts and strengths of the faculty members, a strength that we are extremely proud of in the LNMIIT. It heartens us to know that our alumni are doing well and the integrated research output of our faculty members is comparable to some of the better known institutions in the country.

The foundation to create an atmosphere of academic excellence is laid at the time of admission: the students are selected solely on the basis of their merit. After all, their interest is paramount to us. The students are an integral part of the administration, and are represented in the highest decision making body of the LNMIIT, the Academic Council. In addition, we solicit and take cognizance of their suggestions towards the curriculum and the feedback on the various courses every semester.

I will like to quote Aristotle: “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit”. To enable our march towards excellence, your valuable input will help us, to take priority steps in the direction where we may need to do more. We welcome your comments and suggestions for the same. Please write to director@lnmiit.ac.in. And do let us know if you are planning to come to our campus. It will be a pleasure to meet you.
