Information Technology has pervaded all walks of life - it is changing the very face of the society and its functioning world-over - the way we interact for living, commerce, communication, entertainment, technological pursuits, or even governance. Realizing the importance of Information Technology, the Government of Rajasthan and the LAKSHMI & USHA MITTAL FOUNDATION have jointly set-up the LNM Institute of Information Technology, an autonomous non-profit organization, with the objective of producing leading professionals in the field of Information Technology with a proper blend of communication, computers, management, and social awareness. Two disciplines of engineering that are the foundation for the IT are Communications and Computers. The Institute has three four-year undergraduate programmes (a) Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), (b) Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), (c) Computer and Communication Engineering (CCE), each one of which is a core programme of the IT. These have been designed as unique programmes which will significantly contribute not only to the Communications, Computers, and IT industries but also to the academia. Graduates of these programmes will have ample opportunities in a variety of industries.

The Institute is in Jaipur, the Pink City of India well known for its Rajasthani heritage and scientific explorations from the time of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh. The Institute's modern residential Campus, located at Rupa ki Nangal, about 16 km from Jaipur City, has come up in less than a year. The 100-Acre campus, designed by a renowned architect, has all the features of a contemporary technological university, for example, air-conditioned well equipped laboratories and library, air-cooled lecture halls and hostels etc. Other infrastructural facilities are coming up. The Institute has state-of-the-art laboratories. All students have access to campus network as well as Internet. The library has adequate collection of latest books and journals. The Institute follows a semester system of education.

The Institute is a University as declared by the Government of India under Section 3 of the UGC Act.
