About Central Library

To meet the vision and mission of the Institute, the library has been established “to promote knowledge generation and application through its effective dissemination”. The library, therefore, acts as main learning resource centre of the Institute and provides services and facilities to meet the requirements and objectives of the Institute’s.

Central Library occupies a place of pride in LNM IIT and is an essential component of the institute’s outstanding research and education mission. It is a most lively place on the campus providing a safe, comfortable and friendly environment that enables learning and advancement of knowledge.

Objectives

The library operates with the following objectives:

  • To support the teaching and learning process of the Faculty members, Students, and Research scholars through the provision of knowledge/information.
  • To provide access to high-quality information sources  both in print and digital form
  • To embrace and integrate technology to provide access to electronic resources, online catalogue, and digital archives.
  • To provide a conducive environment for learning, research, and intellectual exploration through study spaces, collaborative areas, and quiet zones.
  • To offer a range of user services, including reference assistance, interlibrary loans, and document delivery, current awareness services to meet the diverse needs of students, faculty, and researchers.
  • To promote information literacy skills among students and faculty to enable them to effectively locate, evaluate, and use information resources for academic and research purposes.
  • To facilitate research activities by offering access to a wide range of scholarly materials and resources.
  • To Provide research assistance, guidance on information retrieval, and training on research methodologies.

Timings

  • Monday – Saturday- 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM
  • Sunday – 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM
  • Holidays – 10:00 AM to 05:00 PM
  • During Examination- Up to 12:00 AM Midnight

  *Closed on National Holidays

     Circulation Timings:

  • Monday to Sunday: 9:30 AM – 9:30 PM
  • During Institute Holidays: 10:30 AM – 4:30 PM

The Library offer many services in support of academic and research work.

Library has established a network and co-operative arrangement with many resourceful libraries and consortia .To fulfill and cater the needs of the faculty,staff and students Central library has taken Institutional membership of following libraries/Institutions.

  • Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET), Gandhinagar
  • Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar 
  • Developing Library Network (DELNET), New Delhi 
  • Indian Association of Special Libraries Information Centres, Kolkata (IASLIC)

The Young Learners Library (YLL) provides an excellent opportunity for children in the age group of 5 to 15 years with a good collection of books covering Children’s Fiction, Stories, Actions and adventure, Science Fiction, Education, Reference, Classics, Creativity, Facts so on and so forth.

 

Who can become a member?

Any faculty or staff member of LNMIIT whose children are in the age group of 5 – 15 years can become a member. Please fill in the Google Form to make your children members of YLL.

Entitlements:

  • Members can borrow three books at a time for 15 days
  • One can return books after two days and borrow new books.

Timings of YLL:

  • Monday to Saturday: 5 pm to 7 pm
  • Sundays and Holidays: 10 am to 12 noon and 4 pm to 6 pm

Please note:

  • The children in arms (Less than three years old are not allowed inside the library)
  • It is mandatory for parents to accompany their Children all the time while they are in the library and make sure that their movements are restricted to YLL in the Hall No.2 only.
  • Any Child is crying must be immediately taken out of the library as it would disturb other LNMIIT students studying inside.

Library Rules:

  • The entry will be restricted to Identity card holders only.
  • Users should must make entry in the respective register placed at Guard’s table.
  • Users will be not allowed to bring the issued books inside the library. However, they will be permitted, if they wish to Re-Issue/ Return the book on same day during Issue/Return timing.
  • The readers are requested to keep their personal belongings at the entrance of the library. Users are responsible for the same.
  • Using mobile phone inside the library is strictly prohibited.
  • Bags, hand bags are strictly prohibited in the library.
  • Users are not allowed to take their laptops or any other gadget items in the Digital Library/Multimedia section.

Circulation Guidelines

The rules are framed to facilitate and promote, rather than to constrain, the use of the Library’s collection and services

  • Institute Identity Card is a must for issue & return of reading materials.
  • Materials issued out from the library are to be returned on or before the due date without any further delay at the Circulation Desk during its working hours.
  • New fine rules are framed, which are currently in use for overdue books.
  • Our Circulation Counter is operational as long as the library remains open. This will allow you to borrow as per the working hours of the library. However, it will close just 15 minutes before the closing time.
  • The fine for overdue books is fixed at Rs. 2/- per day per book. Please avoid paying fines/overdue charges by promptly returning the books as per the due dates. OR get them reissued.
  • Reissuing can be done for any issued book which has “no reservation” or it is not in heavy demand.
  • You can also send us a Renewal Request by email at circulation.library@lnmiit.ac.in , giving the details of your borrowed books.
  • You are now allowed to borrow one “Reference book.”
  • You are allowed to borrow back issues of Magazines/Journals – for One week.
  • Any kind of damage of library materials (marking, underlying, and clipping of books) is absolutely forbidden. Readers shall be held responsible for any damage done to the book belonging to the library and shall be required to replace it or pay the value + 20% +RFID tags thereof.
  • Faculty and staff going on long leave, will have to return all borrowed materials before leaving the institute.
  • If the book you are returning is found to be in a damaged condition, then the library will levy “Binding charges.
  • Absence from the institute will not be allowed as an excuse for the delay in the return of books.
  • The borrowers are requested to check the books & other reading materials thoroughly for missing pages, chapters, any damage, markings, etc. before borrowing.
  • Books or any other issuable item in damaged conditions may not be accepted from the borrower. Mutilated or spoiled books may have to be replaced by the borrower.
  • The borrower will be responsible for any loss or non-return of any books issued against his/her identity card.
  • Faculty and staff going on long leave, will have to return all borrowed materials before leaving the institute.
  • No material from the Library should be taken out without proper issue/ recording. Any type of violation may lead to a disciplinary action.
  • Under special circumstances, the librarian may refuse the issue of books or recall the books already issued from any member without assigning any reason thereof.

 

Conduct of Library users:

  • The Library is to be used for the purpose of academic study and research and for the consultation of subject and other related material. Everyone on the library shall respect the rights of other users.
  • Anyone using the library shall identify himself on request from any member of the library staff. Silence must be strictly observed both by the users in the reading and reference zones of the library.
  • Users are not permitted to smoke, consume food or drink in the library.
  • No one shall reserve a working place in the library by leaving library material or personal property on a reading table.
  • Every user must return the books/journals in its original place after its use has been served.
  • The library is not responsible for any loss of any personal property brought into the library.
